Strength Training

Strength training, also known as weightlifting, is an athletic discipline that results in the reduction of body fat and the growth of muscle.

Women experience increased muscle tone and sleek, lean muscles.  Men, with the proper training, can put on muscle mass and develop an overall muscular physique.

Cardio Training

Cardio training can provide several benefits. Cardio helps increase the strength of your heart and lungs. Cardio can help you improve your endurance during workouts as well.   Last, but not least, cardio can aid in burning calories and losing weight.

There are two primary types of cardio training:

Steady State, such as a treadmill where you stay at a relatively consistent speed for a longer period of time.

HIIT:  High Intensity Interval Training, which involves ‘all out’ intensity for a short duration, followed by a short recovery period.  This process is repeated typically for 20 minutes.  The HUGE advantage of HIIT training is that it conserves muscle tissue where as prolonged steady state cardio does not.

Stretching

Stretching is an excellent way to improve your flexibility and possibly avoid injury.  If you choose to stretch prior to Strength Training, wait at least 5 minutes after your last stretch before you begin you Strength Training.  This will help avoid injury.
